NA 151: Abdul Qadir Gilani wins by-election

MULTAN: The PPP candidate and son of former Prime Minister, Abdul Qadir Gilani won the by-elections held in Multan’s NA-151 constituency, defeating independent candidate Malik Shaukat Hayat Boson by 4096 votes, according to unofficial results.

After a neck-and-neck contest, Gilani secured 64,628 votes against Bosan’s 60,532 votes in 245 polling stations across the constituency.

The counting of votes began at 5 p.m. amid tight security in the constituency after the polling ended. However, official results are yet to be announced.

The National Assembly seat was vacated by former Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani after his disqualification by the Supreme Court of Pakistan last month.

Rigging reports were also received from various polling stations where people accused presiding officers of stamping the ballot papers.
Ten candidates, nine of them independent, were contesting the bye-election while the real contest held between son of Gilani and Malik Boson. -- NEWS FROM SAMAA TV
